Continuous Improvement
What is Continuous Improvement?
At the heart of the RSTO program is a unique training and coaching program that builds local capabilities in Continuous Improvement. Continuous Improvement is the ongoing process of making small, gradual changes to refine processes and activities over time. By regularly looking at what works and what doesn’t, and making adjustments accordingly, we can improve the quality, efficiency, and outcomes of our services.
Through a structured approach, we provide tools, processes and knowledge to help our partners achieve and sustain positive change related to service quality, accessibility and reach, and participation.
‘Previously, changes were made on hunches or just random ideas, whereas this gives us a framework that we can work within.’ - Amanda Bell, Director of Mobile Children’s Services and Alignment, Bourke and District Children’s Services
Implementation Support
Equipping our partners with the essential continuous improvement skills helps to identify improvement opportunities, test and implement effective changes, and scale-up and sustain better ways of working.
Core elements of this program include:
- An understanding what to measure: build knowledge of what evidence-based lead indicators you can implement at your foundational early years service
- The application of Continuous Improvement (CI) tools, processes and knowledge to develop and support more timely change
- Identification of priorities and the development of ideas and solutions to address them
- Community of Practice forums to support collaboration with other organisations to share learnings, identify opportunities for innovation and accelerate progress.
Target audience
This program has been designed with and for practitioners working with children and families and leaders in an organisation or community initiative that are currently leading learning and development. Get in touch with the RSTO team if you would like to learn more about what Continuous Improvement could look like at your organisation.
Continuous Improvement in practice
Watch our October 2024 webinar, ‘Democratising Data: a practical approach for frontline workers’ to hear insights from the RSTO team, service leaders, and early childhood educators about implementing Continuous Improvement.
‘Restacking the Odds, using data and thinking about change in the way that I do now has provided a sense of championship. It helps people think they can make a difference.’ - Sarah Rawley, Kindergarten and Early Childhood Teacher, Gowrie Victoria
Restacking the Odds is a collaboration between the Centre for Community Child Health at the Murdoch Children's Research Institute, Bain & Company and Social Ventures Australia.
RSTO would like to acknowledge the support of project partners the Paul Ramsay Foundation and PALO IT.
